People often ignore or fail to admire the creativity put into advertisements especially when it comes to rival brands mocking each other. These ads often display challenges, puns, mockery and creative humor which make them absolutely epic. Print ads have always been tangible, credible and key to the establishment of brands. The trend today involves multinational franchises and brands engaged in a war of creative marketing and advertisement taunting each other. Some of these ads are visually impressive and keep the consumer interested for more.

The following are some top brand rivalries and examples of how they creatively compete with each other;

Coke vs. Pepsi

Coke vs. Pepsi

It seems that Coke and Pepsi will go the end of days competing with each other for superiority. We all remember the Cola wars in the 80s when Pepsi which Pepsi dominated. Today, both rivals are neck to neck with each other and often engage with ads and commercials mocking the other brand while promoting theirs. Last Halloween was no different as Pepsi ad wished consumers for the day by referring to the coke branded cape as a scary Halloween costume. In return, Coke came back with a great comeback featuring the same ad with the tagline reading, “everybody wants to be a hero”. Epic!

Audi vs. BMW vs. Mercedes

Audi vs. BMW vs. Mercedes

Audi and BMW have had a long rivalry which has given us some hilarious memories on twitter and print ads. Their puns and comebacks are something marketers and creative individuals take inspiration from in this modern era. BMW started the war by congratulating Audi for best car in South Africa in 2006 followed by the bottom line reading, “from the winner of world best car in 2006”. Ever since then, mega car companies take the marketing battles very seriously. The war has used marketing and advertising arsenal such as prints, commercials and even billboards. These ads don’t really affect the decision of the buyers but their popularity has led other companies to engage in the war and get some of the action. The industry is very competitive and millions are spent on these one liners alone which are used to act or react on ads.

Marvel vs. DC

Marvel vs. DC

The fates of Marvel and DC are now tied to Hollywood and how the films from their respective cinematic universe perform at the box office. Currently, the MCU is miles ahead of the competition with the DCU failing to impress especially with the release of Batman vs. Superman and the justice league which were simply disasters that made no sense or were simply pale. In Deadpool 2, Wade mocked the DC Universe of being dark during a scene and this scene was also put into the trailer. To top that, the post credit scene was even more hilarious. We all know that the Green Lantern movie is the worst DC movie so far and since Deadpool and Green Lantern was played by Ryan Reynolds, the scene in which Deadpool killed Ryan Reynolds while he was looking at the Green Lantern script made this scene hilariously memorable. This was following the post credit scene in which they made fun of Deadpool by making him travelling back in time to kill the X-men Origins version of the character which was terrible to say the least. The DCU is coming up with Aquaman this November which looks pretty bad ass compared to previous films and it might be the film which gives the universe the boost it desperately needs. However, the animated versions of DCU and the Arrowverse are doing great so that’s a plus for them as well.

McDonalds vs. Burger King

This one was just the right opportunity at the right time. The movie IT was about to release and burger king came up with a once in a life time ad which mocked McDonalds. The ad is pretty much self-explanatory as it is a film about a clown. The tag line gave the last blow and we absolutely applauded. Creative advertising is winning the world as we know it. Another great pun made was, “the moral is never trust a clown; burger king”

Samsung vs. Apple

Samsung vs. Apple

The new iPhones brought about immense criticism and Samsung didn’t fail to take this opportunity to taunt its biggest rival. Samsung uploaded a few new ads in its ongoing “Ingenius” series that make fun of the Apple Genius Bar and pits the iPhone X against Samsung’s Galaxy devices.

The best part of the hilarious ads was when the genius bar points out that on iOS 12, you can FaceTime up to 32 people. “Why would I ever want to do that though?” asks the customer.
